Walking along a 16 km beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island, breakers pounding the sand to your right and evergreens rising to the mountains on your left, you can begin to appreciate the strong connection aboriginal people have with the land. While cities make it easier to support and service our never ending quest for economic growth and the so-called prosperity it provides, urbanization also severes the relationship our ancestors had with the natural environment.
We really need to listen closer to our aboriginal brothers and sisters, learn to listen closer to the land and the other living things we share this planet with. We must find a way to better harmony with the waves, the sea, the sun and the trees.
